ABOUT THE EVENT
On July 17-20, 2019, Bree Nichols will perform in two international modern premieres as a part of the annual Olomouc Baroque Festival in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Both are the works of Austrian composer Johann Heinrich Schmelzer (c. 1620-1680)
DIE SIEBEN ALTER STIMMEN ZUSAMMEN (THE SEVEN AGES AGREE)
Bree will be singing the roles of Witz, Fama, and Juno. This serenata was originally performed on January 18th, 1680 for the birthday celebration of Maria Antonia of Austria. The libretto by Johann Albrecht Ruedolf illuminates Ptolemy's seven stages of life and the Roman deities representing each one, all in celebration and blessing of Maria Antonia.
LE VEGLIE OSSEQUIOSE (THE OBSEQUIOUS VIGILS)
Bree will perform the role of Fortuna in this serenata. Based on a libretto by Hapsburg court poet Nicolò Minato, this work commemorated the birthday of Emperor Leopold I in 1679. The allegorical characters Fortune, Virtue, Joy, and Pleasure praise the Emperor's virtues such that even the Silence of Night must join in their celebration.
