ABOUT THE EVENT
Music from Across the Sea is a new concert production featuring works by American composers from the first half of the 20th century. During this era, music in the United States—like society itself—was undergoing a period of rapid change, as African American culture gained an increasingly prominent voice. It is no surprise that elements of jazz, swing, and gospel quickly began to influence classical music, creating a vibrant fusion of styles. READ MORE...
This program, which features the works of Florence Price, Carlisle Floyd, Moses Hogan, George Gershwin, and more, moves gracefully along the boundary between classical and popular music. American soprano Bree Nichols will appear alongside bass Josef Kovačič, with pianist and conductor Jan Mára at the piano.
