When Puccini’s masterful operatic setting of Murger’s Scènes de la vie de Bohème was first performed at Turin’s Teatro Regio in 1896, it was clear that the opera would become an immortal part of the repertoire of opera houses around the world.

The work, which cemented the triumph of Italian verismo, tells the love story of young people struggling to make their way through life in the artistic circles of 19th-century Paris.
